In an online session, Marilena Iannidinardi discusses working for the European Commission and opportunities for interpreters after Brexit.
Please note this event will be held online via Zoom. Please register your attendance in advance – registration available until 15:00 on the day of the session.
Marilena Iannidinardi, a Leeds graduate and staff interpreter at the European Commission, will give an insight into the industry and the profession. She will talk about what it is like working for European institutions, and discuss opportunities for interpreters after Brexit. The EU still needs English speaking interpreters and certain languages are currently in high demand.
Staff from our MA Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies course will also be available to answer any questions you may have.
The School of Languages, Cultures and Societies is offering a number of Scholarships to students joining our courses in September 2021, with additional awards for those studying translation and interpreting. Current University of Leeds students get a 10% discount on tuition fees.
This session is primarily focussed towards final year undergraduates with any of the following languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. All other undergraduates with these languages are also most welcome.
Normally at these events, we would offer you the chance to have a go at simultaneous interpreting in a booth in one of the interpreting suites in the Parkinson building. This is an on-line only event, so this will not be possible. However, we would be happy to take enquiries from anyone who attends the webcast and wants to attend a try-out session, with a view to confirming a mutually convenient date and time.
