Print and the People in Early Modern Europe

Explore the development of print and how it worked as a business as well as an art.

Discover if printing really changed early modern society profoundly in a talk by Dr Sara Barker (School of History).

The development of the printing press in mid-fifteenth century Europe is often described in terms of ‘revolution’ – an invention which led to changes in science, religion and politics. This talk invites you to think about the kinds of printing early modern people will have encountered, and also what has survived down to the present day, and why.
