The Medieval Group will host an event with multiple speakers titled 'A Day in the Life of...Librarians'.

Medieval Group

The Medieval Group is the oldest medieval studies-related association at the University, and is run by a committee of volunteers from among the staff, PhD, and MA students in the Institute for Medieval Studies (IMS). The Group runs various events, from a seminar series to trips to sites of medieval interest, and invites speakers from a wide range of interdiscplinary topics.

Lectures and workshops are held in the Le Patrouel Room (4.06) on the fourth floor of the Parkinson Building. Meetings start at 17:00 with tea and biscuits, with the speaker beginning promptly at 17:30. For further information, contact Melanie Brunner (M.Brunner@leeds.ac.uk). 

Upcoming Event

A panel of speakers will contribute to a session titled 'A Day in the Life of...Librarians'.  Speakers include:

• Rhian Isaac (Central Collections Manager, Leeds Library and Information Service, Leeds City Council)
• Rhiannon Lawrence-Francis (Collections and Engagement Manager, Rare Books and Maps, Special Collections and Galleries, Leeds University Library)
• Dr Eleanor Warren (Research Data Management Advisor, Leeds University Library)

This session will open with three short presentations exploring what a typical day looks like for someone working in a university or public library. All three speakers have a medieval background, so they will discuss how a career in a library links with a degree and interest in Medieval Studies. 

Plenty of time for discussion and questions will follow, so come along if you are considering a career or volunteering in the library sector, or just want to know what working in a library entails on a day-to-day basis. 

The final event in the Medieval Group 2018-2019 calendar is a field-trip to Pickering Castle and Parish Church, held on 11 May 2019.
