Workshop: Archive Environments

How does it feel to visit an archive? How can archives better support researcher wellbeing? What might trauma-informed knowledge exchange and engagement practices look like?

This event was a Healthy Engagement Network (HEN) workshop exploring the ways in which archive environments might be better equipped to facilitate engagement with emotionally demanding histories. The workshop was envisioned as a space for creative practitioners, archivists, and academic researchers to discuss and reflect on the ways in which archive environments, and those who shape them, might be better equipped to facilitate engagement with emotionally demanding histories.

The workshop was preceded by an optional session with the Brotherton Library Cultural Collections team which we’re calling a ‘Chatty Reading Room’; a chance to handle and explore some of the collections held at the University of Leeds Brotherton Library.

This workshop was part of the Developing Healthy Engagement project, funded by Research England under the Enhancing Research Culture funding stream. Find out more on the project webpage.
