Black Audio Film Collective's Who Needs A Heart screening at Leeds City Varieties Music Hall

The screening of the controversial, rarely-seen 1991 film will be followed by a discussion with the film's writer Edward George and star Cassie McFarlane.

Who Needs A Heart (1991) is a rarely seen and controversial film made by the Black Audio Film Collective. It addresses the ‘loves, passions, influences, shortcomings and failures’ of Malcolm X, the British Black Power revolutionary.

This Black History month 2022, this important film is brought to Leeds thanks to collaboration between Pavilion and the iconic Leeds City Varieties Music Hall, and the School of History’s Dhanveer Singh Brar.

The screening at the City Varieties will be followed by a discussion between Dhanveer, Edward George (a founding member of the Black Audio Film Collective and the writer of Who Needs A Heart) and Cassie McFarlane (who plays the character of Millie in the film).

All are welcome to this unique event.

Tickets are priced on a Pay As You Feel basis. Details of how to book and further background on the film can be found on the Pavilion website.
