Profile
I am currently pursing a PhD qualification, researching early Victorian depictions of sympathy toward the working class in 'Condition of England' novels. I recieved both my B.A. and M.A. in English ?iterature from Saint John's University in Queens, New York, balancing my studies between the Victorian novel and pre-Civil War American fiction.
Research interests
I am particularly interested in the history of emotions as relates to Victorian interpretations of 'sympathy' as both emotion and act, particularly in the first half of the century which witnessed widespread unrest amongst the working classes. I am interested in the mode by which sympathy is extended (or not) beyond class boundaries.
