Brontë-based track released by Lence, featuring Denis Flannery
The new track by Leeds-based rapper/ spoken word artist Lence also includes a familiar voice from the School of English
The rapper/ spoken word artist Lence has visited the School of English on a number of occasions over the last few years and performed several pieces inspired by the poetry of Emily Brontë as an extra event for students taking the MA Brontës module.
Released as a single on 10 April, Lence’s latest track - entitled ‘Explain it all away’ - is based on his reading of Emily Brontë's poem 'No Coward Soul is Mine'. The track opens with a sample of the School of English’s Dr Denis Flannery talking about Lence, taken from a BBC interview.
As Lence himself described the track when speaking for a World Poetry Day event last month, ‘it’s all about preserving your creative spark in a world that’s quick to “explain it all away” [and] features a blend of poetry and rap’.
'Explain it all away' is available on all major streaming platforms. A 30-second trailer for the single can be found here.
