Leeds interpreting students win prize in international competition

Leeds students won the third prize in the 10th International Translation and Interpreting Competition.

Congratulations to Leeds MA Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies (MACITS) students, Yiqing Sun (孙义青) and Siyu Wang (王思雨), for winning the third prize in Chinese/English simultaneous interpreting in the 10th International Translation and Interpreting Competition held on 23rd May 2021.

The competition was organised by Beijing Languages and Cultures University and supported by the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), the International Permanent Conference of University Institutes of Translators and Interpreters (CIUTI) and the Translators Association of China (TAC).

86 contestants from 28 prestigious interpreting and translation schools (including 8 CIUTI members from the Chinese mainland, the UK, and the US) were screened to the grand final of the Chinese/English bi-directional simultaneous interpreting contest.

The team of Yiqing Sun and Siyu Wang were among the 43 teams screened to the grand final, which was held in hybrid mode where some students performed on site in the interpreting suites and others joined remotely through the interpreting channel on Zoom.
