Professor Chris Paterson co-authors essay

Professor of Global Communication Chris Paterson has co-authored an essay with Dr Jorg Wiegratz (School of Politics and International Studies) and Leeds University Centre for African Studies Virtual Research Fellow Dr Scott Timcke, of the University of Johannesburg.
The essay in the Blog of the Review of African Political Economy argues that African governments are turning to surveillance technologies and foreign military support to protect capitalism in their countries.
Two of the nine LUCAS/LAHRI Research Fellows, including Timke, are working with Paterson in 2021. Under the theme “African Knowledges for Global Challenges”, the scheme enables scholars based on the African continent to collaborate with Leeds academics.
