Dr John Gallagher to be a guest on BBC Radio 3’s Early Music Show
Sunday 29th November will see Dr John Gallagher appear as a guest on the Early Music Show on BBC Radio 3 as part of the BBC celebration for the 10th anniversary of the New Generation Thinkers scheme.
Dr John Gallagher will be exploring how immigrant musicians shaped music in the court of Elizabeth I and how migrant British composers exported their Art abroad. The Early Music Show is broadcast on Sundays on BBC Radio 3 at 14:00 and also available via the BBC Radio 3 website, or the BBC Sounds app by searching “The Early Music Show”.
The UK’s brightest minds in arts and humanities research, including the School of History’s own Dr John Gallagher, are chosen for the New Generation Thinkers scheme, bringing their vibrant mix of research to BBC radio and television to capture the public imagination. Debates, conversations, music and new writing will bring diverse ideas from 10 year of New Generation Thinkers to life - from a look at how lockdown has changed the role of the bedroom to the impact of the arts on our health.
The programming is part of the 10th anniversary of BBC Radio 3 and AHRC New Generation Thinkers (NGT), a scheme that has discovered 100 early career arts and humanities researchers since its launch in 2010 and helped to bring their vibrant mix of research to BBC radio and television.
Dr John Gallagher is a lecturer in Early Modern History here in the School of History, he is a cultural and social historian of early modern Britain and Europe, with a particular interest in language, migration and education.
