International Organisations Week
Centre for Translation Studies hosts linguists for an international knowledge-sharing experience.
On 16-20 April 2018, CTS hosted 13 Heads of Translation Units, Coordinators of Language Services, Senior Translators, Senior Revisers, Terminologists, and Language Technologists from:
- UN HQ New York, UN Office in Geneva
- International Criminal Court (ICC)
- International Telecommunications Union (ITU)
- International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
- World Trade Organization (WTO)
- International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO)
- World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
- EU Directorate-General for Translation (DGT)
- EU Directorate-General for Interpretation (DG SCIC)
These linguists came to Leeds to be trained by our members of staff on Customising linguistic tools and resources for translation practice. In return, they offered CTS and LCS students 20 hours of invaluable training on translation technologies and practices in their institutions, specialised translation classes (with Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Russian and Spanish), as well as career opportunities in the various International Organisations they represented. There were 110 participants who signed up for the training provided by our guests.
With this week, CTS strengthened its ties with International Organisations and demonstrated its commitment to deliver industry-relevant MA programmes.
