MACITS Alumna passes EU accreditation test
A Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies alumna, Emma Mawer, passes inter-institutional accreditation test.
We are delighted and proud to report that Emma Mawer (MA Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies, 2016-17) passed the inter-institutional accreditation test for the recruitment of Auxiliary Conference Interpreters (ACIs) for the European institutions.
Emma, who studied conference interpreting from French and Spanish into English at Leeds, now lives in Paris and is working on adding French as a B (active) language. She admitted the whole experience was fairly stressful, though she is happy she went through it. She will have her first official working day at the European Parliament in a few weeks.
Emma is the most recent in a long list of our former students who have successfully passed this test and who now work for the EU institutions either as freelance or staff interpreters. This is testament to the high-quality training our students receive on our conference interpreting programme, taught both by EU-accredited and non-accredited conference interpreters. We also receive Pedagogical Assistance from DG Interpretation of the European Commission (DG SCIC), which ensures our trainees are exposed to EU-style working conditions, receive feedback from staff interpreters, and sit through a mock accreditation test during their study visit in Brussels.
Well done to Emma for such a great achievement. We look forward to hearing more about her life as a freelance interpreter for the EU.
