Opportunities for Visiting Research Fellows

Eligibility

To apply for the Visiting Research Fellows scheme in our School, we would normally expect you to: 

  • Hold a PhD in one of the disciplinary fields relevant to the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, 
  • Hold an affiliation with an academic institution in the UK or abroad.

Please note that the Visiting Research Fellows scheme in our School is not open to postgraduate researchers (PhD candidates) or Post-doctoral Fellowships. If you are a postgraduate researcher at another institution in the UK or abroad and seek to spend a period of time in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, please apply for the Visiting Postgraduate Researchers scheme.

How to apply 

Applications to the Visiting Research Fellows scheme in our School must be submitted through this online application form. 

As part of the online application, applicants will be asked to upload the following supporting documents: 

  • An up-to-date academic CV
  • A photocopy of your passport (data page)
  • A signed reference letter from your home institution/employer (signed e.g. by a supervisor, line manager and/or Head of School)
  • A signed supporting statement from a named academic sponsor from the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the University of Leeds

The School endeavours to notify applicants of the outcome of their application within 6-8 weeks of receipt of the application. Please note, the School will only process applications that include all required supporting documentations.  

If approved, the School will issue you with a formal letter of invitation. The letter functions as proof that the visit has been granted by the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the University of Leeds and for the purpose of any visa applications.

Bench fees for Visiting Research Fellows must be paid in full prior to, or at the very latest, upon arrival at the University of Leeds and payment constitutes a requisite for accessing University of Leeds facilities and services. 

Bench fees must be paid via the School of Languages, Cultures and Society online payment system.
