Dr Sarah Dodd

Profile

I gained my PhD from the University of Leeds, funded by an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) scholarship. My thesis explored the representation of monstrosity in a collection of seventeenth century Chinese stories, Pu Songling's Liaozhai zhiyi, and my current research is on the fantastic in contemporary Chinese fiction.

Research interests

My research is focused on fantasy and science fiction in Chinese fiction and film.

I am deputy director of the Leeds Centre for New Chinese Writing, which brings together writers, translators, publishers and academics working in the field of contemporary Chinese fiction, organising events, translation competitions and a monthly book club.

I am also one of the organisers of the Transcultural Fantastic, a research project based at the University of Leeds focusing on the traditions of the fantastic from an intercultural and interdisciplinary perspective.
