Leah Wang

Profile

My research is on Film, Television and Cultural Studies, as trained in my PhD in Film and Television Studies. I joined the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, at the University of Leeds, after having taught at the University of Exeter for six years (permanent position) and the University of Nottingham for a year (fixed-term position). I was accredited as a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in the 2010s. Before joining academia, I worked full time in permanent positions in the industry in the UK for nearly three years in two companies, as Associate Researcher in Financial Services and a Specialist in the headquarter of a worldwide-renowned Design Studio, working on projects including a collaboration with Warner Brothers. There are approximately 10 books and nearly 40 issues of magazine and DVD publications with my contributions.

Before working in the industry, I was trained at the United Nations as a trainee for two years while also working as a freelancer for the EU Emission Programme, after graduating from the University of Manchester. Along with my career, I decided to take up a PhD research on Film and Television studies, to pursue my academic interests. My research examines representations in Chinese cinema and East Asian cinema, particularly within the context of contemporary economic reform.
