Scholarships

There are many ways to fund your postgraduate studies. Students often seek funding from a variety of sources including university scholarships, loans, sponsors or external funding bodies. Find out more about the different types of funding available.

You can view scholarships available for your School and level of study below.

Before you apply for any funding, you'll need to have applied to your chosen course. You can apply for more than one funding opportunity, but may have to choose which ones to accept if your applications are successful.

Title External competitions and funding	Summary External funding for UK/EU and international Masters students is available from a number of external organisations and funding bodies.
Title Leeds Alumni Bursary	Summary Graduates of the University of Leeds are entitled to a 10% bursary on tuition fees.
Title Sasakawa postgraduate studentships in Japanese studies	Summary Available to students proposing to pursue either MA Film Studies with a focus on Japanese cinema, MA by Research in Japanese Studies or a PhD in Japanese studies, starting October 2024. PhD students in their first and second year of study are also eligible to enrol.
Title Sports scholarships	Summary Our prestigious Scholarship Programmes support elite athletes and coaches as they combine academic and sporting excellence during their time at the University of Leeds.

UK only


Title Head of School Masters Scholarship	Summary The School of Languages, Cultures and Societies is offering five scholarships of £2500 that will provide a contribution towards academic fees.
Title Leeds Masters Scholarships	Summary Leeds Masters Scholarships aim to encourage UK fee-paying students from under-represented groups to study a postgraduate qualification.
Title Postgraduate loan	Summary The UK government offers a Postgraduate Masters Loan to UK nationals.
Title Sanctuary scholarships	Summary The University of Leeds is pleased to offer scholarships for forced migrants to the UK. The Sanctuary Scholarship is open to people who wish to study any undergraduate, postgraduate or research degree.

International only


Title International Excellence Scholarships	Summary Our International Excellence Scholarships recognise and reward high academic achievement for students who have applied to study a taught Masters course starting in 2025.
