- Thesis title: Ecologies of Exile: Endangered Identities and Environmental Estrangement in Hmong Christianity
- Supervisor: Dr Stefan Skrimshire, Professor Ipek Demir
Profile
After a BA in English Language and Literature and MA in South East Asian Studies, I spent ten years living in South East Asia between 2013 and 2023. I returned to the UK to join the Leverhulme Trust Extinction Studies Doctoral Training Programme in 2023.
I am supervised by Dr Stefan Skrimshire and Professor Ipek Demir.
Research interests
My doctoral project explores the interaction between religious beliefs, (fear of) identity loss, and attitudes towards the environment among Protestant Christian Hmong. This includes ways in which exile, eschatology and endangered identity can influence ambivalent perspectives on both the natural world and indigenous culture.
Academic interests include South East Asian cultures and societies, ecotheology, indigeneity, missiology, and intersections between physical and spiritual worlds.
