Rachel Garratt

Profile

Having completed a History and Politics BA and Modern History MA at the University of Sheffield, I am currently a doctoral candidate in the School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science (PRHS) at Leeds.

Research interests

My research explores deaf responses to new audio technologies in the early 20th Century. It seeks to explore whether these technologies served as an enabling or disabling element by examining spaces in which deaf individuals encountered the evolving soundscape. I am part of the 'Electronic Soundscapes' research network.

Additional research interests include general 20th century disability history, medical humanities and gender history.
