Expressions of Interest invited for the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships in the School of Philosophy, Religion, and History of Science at Leeds

The School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science (PRHS) encourages expressions of interest from researchers in having a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship hosted by the School.

PRHS is a vibrant and exciting intellectual community comprising roughly 60 permanent academic staff, and numerous graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting researchers. Applicants with accepted expressions of interest will receive significant guidance during September using our successful model for applications and focused support for grant application development.

Eligibility: Early career (PhD viva voce between 1 April 2022 and 1 April 2025) British citizens and EEA nationals, regardless of where they obtained their doctoral degree, and early career researchers of any nationality with a doctorate from a UK university. For your project to be hosted by PRHS, your research must be in philosophy, history and philosophy of science, or theology and religious studies.

(Please note that we normally expect candidates who wish to apply for a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship with us in February to also apply for a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship with us the previous October.)

Deadlines: Expressions of interest in having a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship hosted at Leeds should be submitted by emailing Isobel Lister (I.Lister@leeds.ac.uk) no later than 12 noon (UK time) on Monday 19 August 2024 with (1) a statement of eligibility, (2) a detailed CV, and (3) a proposal of no more than 2 pages outlining the planned research programme (explaining its scholarly importance and originality) and indicating at least one member of PRHS staff as a potential mentor.

Applicants should be prepared to have a draft of the application ready for School review no later than Friday 18 September, in anticipation of submission by the scheme deadline of Wednesday 2 October.

Further information about the structure and content of full applications can be found on the BA website.  Any questions, please contact our Director of Research and Innovation, Léa Salje (l.c.salje@leeds.ac.uk).
