Centre for Religion and Public Life research seminar with Dr Alana Vincent

CRPL research seminar with Dr Alana Vincent (University of Chester): “Crisis and Ritual Creativity: Three Theses”

The Centre for Religion and Public Life is hosting a research seminar with Professor Alana Vincent (University of Chester / Umeå University), who will speak about:

“Crisis and Ritual Creativity: Three Theses”

The British Ritual under COVID-19 [BRIC-19] Project was a mixed method study which aimed to document and analyse the various creative ways that religious communities adapted to the restrictions on public gathering imposed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

This talk will consider the results of BRIC-19 in comparison with other historical cases of ritual change in response to widespread social crisis, forwarding three general theses about modalities of religious creativity in crisis situations.
