Applications invited for PhD Scholarships in the School of Music
The School of Music invites applications from prospective postgraduate researchers who wish to commence study for a PhD in the academic year 2026/27.
A number of fully funded PhD scholarships are available to undertake doctoral study. Full information, including details of the application processes and deadlines can be found through the links below.
Arts and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Landscape Awards
These awards are open to all applicants, whether Home/UK or International (including EU). As a member of the AHRC-funded Doctoral Training Hub across the North of England, award-holders of the AHRC PhD studentships will also be part of a multi-institutional cohort of PhD researchers, with extensive skills, leadership, and professional development opportunities including residential workshops, writing retreats, careers events, mentoring, and an annual conference.
Leeds Doctoral Scholarships
This scholarship is open to prospective postgraduate researchers in any Faculty who are eligible for the Home/UK rate of tuition fees.
School of Music International Research Scholarship
This scholarship is open to prospective postgraduate researchers in the School of Music who are eligible for the International rate of tuition fees (including EU).
School of Music Opportunity Research Scholarship
This scholarship is open to prospective postgraduate researchers in the School of Music from Black, Asian and other minoritised ethnic groups who are eligible for the Home/UK rate of tuition fees.
Stanley Burton Research Scholarship
This scholarship is open to prospective postgraduate researchers in the School of Music who are eligible for the Home/UK rate of tuition fees.
All awards provide full academic fees for 3 years and a maintenance award for 3.5 years (£20,780 in Session 2025/26) for full-time study (pro-rata part-time awards are available only to postgraduate researchers who are eligible for the Home/UK rate of tuition fees). This amount increases per annum in line with the UKRI rate.
