The Leeds Russian Centre
Pioneering a new approach to Russian Studies to reposition Russia in the age of globalisation
Our research
The Leeds Russian Centre was founded with the aim of pioneering a new approach to Russian Studies entitled 'Russian(n) in the Global Context'.
Our objective is to reposition Russia and Russian Studies in the age of globalisation by moving beyond hitherto binary paradigms of examining Russia (for example, Russia versus West, or Russia in transition from the Communist era). The concept of 'global' is interpreted broadly and not just as a synonym for 'contemporary', hoping that it will involve a broad spread of collaborative projects across disciplines and historical periods of study.
Impact and engagement
The University of Leeds is home to the world renowned Leeds Russian Archive that comprises some 500 collections of manuscripts, photographs and other archival material.
