Nathalie Lawson

Profile

I graduated with first-class honours from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium) in 1994 with a BA in English and German Philology (Linguistics and Literature). Following the completion of an MA in Interpreting and Translating from the University of Bradford in 1999, I worked as a translator and interpreter for the World Customs Organisation in Brussels and subsequently as a freelance translator and interpreter for a variety of British and European organisations. Alongside my professional practice, I taught French and Dutch part-time at Leeds Beckett University between 2010 and 2019. I joined the University of Leeds in 2015 and currently teach French on both the French degree and Languages for All programmes.

Research interests

My current scholarship projects explore:

• how to teach writing the self in a foreign language
• how to build a more inclusive pedagogy of French as a foreign language for native speakers of Chinese and Japanese
