Helen Finnerty

Profile

I have been working at the Language Centre in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the University of Leeds since 2012. I am currently the Module Leader for an undergraduate Discovery Module, which helps support and develop Academic Literacies for international students. I also co-lead a pre-sessional Language for Arts and Humanities supporting international postgraduate students with their academic skills and their transition into their studies UK. From 2023 onwards, I will be providing in sessional support in Academic Literacies for postgraduate students in the School of Education. Before working at the University of Leeds, I was a teacher trainer on Cambridge DELTA and CELTA courses at International House in Buenos Aires. I have a background of teaching ELT and have travelled extensively working in South America, the Czech Rebublic and Turkey. 

Research interests

My current interests include exploring creative and inclusive pedagogies as well as linguistic diversity and decolonising the curriculum.   • MA English Language Studies (First year competed of a part-time course at University of Sheffield)

Student education

I am currently a Module leader for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Language Centre. In 2023, I will be part of the team providing in-sessional provision for postgraduates in the School of Education.
