Thai studies alumni discuss career paths

Join Thai studies alumni Laura and Rhiannon to hear about their time at Leeds and their career paths.

Laura will talk about her involvement in societies such as the EAST Magazine and the Student Action for Refugees, her Master’s degree at the University of Sheffield and her work for the Civil Service where she worked in the G7 Sherpa Team, helping the negotiations of the G7 communique, and participated in the Summit in Cornwall. Laura now works in the Department of International Trade as a Trade and Investment Manager for Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand, where she can use her Thai skills.

Rhiannon graduated in 2016 and started her career as a Thai Researcher at Deloitte working on enhanced and integrity due diligence cases and global-reach asset tracing. Following on from her time in the private sector, Rhiannon began working in the public sector, where she remains. Rhiannon began working for the Civil Service as a Policy Officer for the Welsh Government, on areas including Water and Coal Tip Safety. After gaining a place on the Civil Service Fast Stream in September 2021, she is currently working as a Project Support Officer at the Home Office.
