Jonathan Jarrett, Keynote Speaker
Jonathan Jarrett, Lecturer in Early Medieval History at the University of Leeds, is the Keynote Speaker for the Medieval Midlands Postgraduate Conference: Boundaries and Frontiers in the Middle Ages.
Jarrett's current research focusses on the medieval frontier; the frontier provides 'a sense of borderlands as places where unique social formations develop and that give rise to new possibilities both for their inhabitants and for the outside interests that vie to claim them'. To explore this concept further, Jarrett has organised an upcoming conference held at the University of Leeds on 10 April 2018, titled 'Rethinking the Medieval Frontier'.
The Medieval Midlands Postgraduate Conference, supported by the AHRC Midlands 3 Cities consortium, aims to celebrate dynamic and innovative research that is currently taking place in the UK Midlands. Welcoming papers focussing on any geographical location between 400-1500 CE, speakers are encouraged to interpret the theme of 'boundary' as it is relevant to their own postgraduate research, including physical, cultural, social or religious areas.
The conference will be held at the University of Nottingham from 4-5 May 2018; 250 word abstracts for 15 minute papers must be sent to medievalmidlands@hotmail.com by 23 February 2018. The email should be titled 'Medieval Midlands Conference Submission'. All queries can be sent to the same address.
