Leeds Classics Research Seminar
François Lissarrague (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales), ‘The Image in the Image: Looking at Shield Devices’.
All are welcome to attend this Leeds Classics Research Seminar which will be presented by François Lissarrague from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales.
François Lissarrague will be presenting a paper on 'The Image in the Image: Looking at Shield Devices'.
This paper is part of a larger project on the aesthetics of weapons and the heroic body in Attic vase-painting. Shield devices introduce an image into the image, which often interacts with the general picture in many different ways. This paper will explore the way painters have played with the pictorial possibilities of such embedded images.
