- Location: Inter-Disciplinary Ethics Applied

A seminar exploring contemporary ethical issues and applied philosophy.
As part of our Spring-Summer 2019 research seminar schedule, Gerald Lang presents a talk on issues surrounding proportionality.
Abstract
Proportionality is normally regarded as an indispensable condition on permissible violent defensive action, but its justification is a more delicate matter than most people think. In this talk, I discuss two challenges for proportionality: the ‘Sunk Costs Challenge’ and the ‘Escalation Challenge’. I will do my best to contain and explain away these challenges.
Location
The seminar takes place on Wednesday from 12pm - 1:15pm, in Seminar Room 2 within the IDEA Centre.
All are welcome and no registration is required.
