Leeds triple billing in The London Magazine

Dr Kimberly Campanello, Dr Rachel Bower and Professor Simon Armitage feature in the June-July issue of England’s oldest literary periodical.

Leverhulme Research Fellow Dr Rachel Bower won first place in the prestigious London Magazine Short Story awards earlier this spring.

Against the Tide’ now features prominently in the latest issue of the periodical, and offers a poignant tale about “human encounter, but also about loneliness and loss”.

“The short story is a difficult form to master but there were many strong submissions this year,” explains Steven O’Brien, co-editor of The London Magazine.

In this time of isolation and uncertainty, Rachel Bower’s story shows that the consolation of great writing endures.

The issue also features ‘The Gym’, a new prose poem from Dr Kimberly Campanello, whilst Professor Simon Armitage appears in a supplementary pamphlet of responses to the Coronavirus pandemic.
