Creative writers perform and discuss new work on ChapelFM
Students from the School of English have featured on <em>Love the Words,</em> discussing their contribution to the <em>Tenter Hook</em> anthology.
Released as a free e-book earlier this month, Tenter Hook is the second anthology to showcase the work of undergraduate students studying our English Literature with Creative Writing degree.
“This is a selection of work that students produced last semester,” explains Dr Kimberly Campanello, editor of the anthology and Programme Leader.
“I went through all the portfolios that they’d submitted, and chose pieces that I felt were really strong but also really interesting, and I think played off each other in terms of form and content.”
During the broadcast, second year student Georgia Palfrey gave a reading of her poem ‘Elephants’, whilst first year student Sam Bird performed an excerpt from his prose piece ‘The Enigmatic Mrs McLaren’.
Georgia also reflected on why she chose to study the unique pairing of English Literature with Creative Writing at Leeds:
“I was looking at different universities to see if there was a course that combined the two, and I think it does it well in a very balanced way. I feel that I get to have a break from the critical side, engage the more creative side of my mind, and get the best of both worlds.”
