Please tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
When not studying in Leeds, I am at home in Southwell, Nottinghamshire. I studied Art at A-level alongside Geography and Spanish prior to moving to Leeds.
What made you want to apply to your course and to Leeds?
Leeds appealed to me greatly. The School of Design has a wealth of resources and facilities and a great reputation. The location of Leeds is well suited for me, as well as the city having lots to offer.
What is it that makes you passionate about your area of study?
I would say I am most passionate about working towards an end goal. Design briefs take you on a journey where you are able to see your work materialize into a finalised design.
What aspects of the course do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy the discussions on design you have with your course mates. It is intriguing to listen to other perspectives and the ideas you share collectively broadens your knowledge.
Have you worked closely with a particular tutor or member or the University’s academic staff? Tell us about that experience.
I worked closely with Joe Gilmore and Catherine Stones in both my semesters. Their shared passion for design was engaging and they were always more than happy to offer any help.
What other activities are available for students to take part in outside of their studies, and which ones have you tried out yourself?
There are more than 300 clubs and societies which students are able to join. Personally, I took part in the university’s tennis program. I look forward to joining more as I continue university.
What do you plan to do when you’ve finished your course, and how do you think the skills and knowledge you’ve developed so far at Leeds will help with these plans?
I am focused on university and want to pick up all the knowledge I can whilst I am a student here. I realise that there is still a long way to go, however, my ideal job would be to work for one of the leading Graphic Design agencies.
What would you say to anyone thinking of applying to your course?
I would simply say, if you have a passion for this area of study, then go for it! I hadn’t studied Graphic Design at school prior to University, so I was relatively new to the subject. The School of Design were very welcoming.
