Film exposure for Leeds graduate scriptwriter

Leeds-based playwright Kieran Launder has been chosen as one of ten writers for this year’s Northern Exposure: Short Film Script Lab in association with the British Film Institute.

A recent graduate of the MA Writing for Performance and Publication, Kieran will develop a short film from idea to completed script under the guidance of BFI Network talent executives and other industry mentors.

He will also collaborate with and receive peer support from the other writers on the project, which is being run online this year. His script will explore queer intimacy and the heritage of Polari.

The Script Lab culminates in a Talent Connect event at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival in November. There, participants will meet UK producers in a series of one-to-one meetings to showcase their finished script and discuss developing their project further.

Kieran has been prolific since completing his MA at the School of Performance and Cultural Industries, writing for Freedom Studios and Off the Cuff Theatre, and working as assistant director and writing facilitator for Limitless Art Collective.
