Emeritus Professor dies at the age of 90
The School of History is sad to announce the death of Peter Sawyer, Emeritus Professor of Medieval History, who has died at the age of 90.
Professor Sawyer joined the School in 1964, and was promoted to a chair six years later. He retired from Leeds in 1982.
In addition to his highly regarded and widely influential scholarship on Anglo-Saxon England and the Vikings, he was instrumental in founding the International Medieval Bibliography, which has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.
