German/World Cinema and Digital Cultures at Leeds PhD graduate Rachel Green wins Austrian prize for her research
Many congratulations to Dr Rachel Green, whose thesis 'Heimat, fremde Heimat: Renegotiating and Deterritorialising Heimat in New Austrian Film' has been awarded the International WSD Prize.
The Internationaler Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler-Preis 2017 prize was awarded to Rachel by the Österreichische Gesellschaft für Germanistik (Austrian Society for German Studies).
Rachel's thesis was supervised by Dr Chris Homewood and Professor Paul Cooke. It explored the manner in which contemporary Austrian cinema revisits and renegotiates the Heimatfilm genre. More specifically, it examined how contemporary debates surrounding globalisation and multiculturalism affect the concept of Heimat in her selected corpus of films.
