Fashionality blogs now available
Manchester University Press recently released Professor Regina Lee Blaszczyk's new book, Fashionability: Abraham Moon and the creation of British cloth for the global market.
Six blogs have been published to coincide with the launch of Fashionability and Yorkshire's tweed industry links to global history.
The first blog post by Professor Blaszczyk starts with the dawning of a new Victoria era and the dominance of the Yorkshire wool industry.
The second blog on Fashionability deals with a theft of cloth from the Coloured Cloth Hall in Leeds, a large sprawling commercial complex that once occupied the space now known as City Square opposite the Queen's Hotel.
The third blog on Fashionability discusses how British woollen mills responded to changing markets during the synthetics age, hooking their stars onto new French ready-to-wear brands such as Daniel Hechter in the 1970s and conquering Japan with preppy tweeds in the 1980s.
The fourth blog is about tweeds on the high street with reference to the great rivalry between C&A Modes and Marks & Spencer.
The fifth blog looks at the importance of trade fairs in locations like Paris and Shanghai to design and sales in the global fashion business.
The sixth blog examines the role of heritage branding in the reinvention of the British textile industry as a player in the fashion system around the world.
