Dr Fozia Bora appointed Chair of the British Association for Islamic Studies

Associate Professor of Islamic History, Dr Fozia Bora, has been appointed as the new Chair of the British Association for Islamic Studies (BRAIS.)

Founded in 2014 and growing year on year since, BRAIS is a learned society and professional organisation focused on enhancing research and teaching about Islam and Muslim cultures and societies in UK higher education.

Alongside its annual conference and Prize for the best PhD dissertation or unpublished monograph in Islamic Studies, the priorities of BRAIS include active support for scholars, teachers and researchers engaged in decolonising Islamic Studies and in championing inclusive pedagogy in this field. Having the Chair of BRAIS based at the University of Leeds will help to increase the visibility of Islamic Studies in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures and the University as a whole.
