Professor Diana Holmes presented with Modern Language Association prize at award ceremony in Seattle, Washington

Diana won the 27th Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for French and Francophone Studies.

Di Holmes (Professor of French) in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, was awarded the highly prestigious MLA of America’s Prize for her monograph: Middlebrow Matters: Women’s Reading and the Literary Canon in France since the Belle Époque (Liverpool University Press, 2018).

The annually-awarded prize is for an outstanding scholarly work in its field – a literary or linguistic study, a critical edition of an important work, or a critical biography – written by a member of the association.
