Leeds graduate scriptwriter to write for BBC

Television scriptwriter Lizzie Watson is one of five new and emerging disabled writers chosen in Partnership with BBC Writersroom to work on the new BBC One series, ‘Ralph and Katie’.

A recent graduate of the MA Writing for Performance and Publication, Lizzie will work alongside Peter Bowker, creator and lead writer of the popular BBC series, The A Word.

Peter Bowker said: "It is genuinely exciting to be collaborating with these five writers who have already written startlingly new and engaging work. We have already started to work together to build the series and the one thing that is clear to me is that I am going to have to up my game!”

Lizzie has had a number of successes since completing her MA at the School of Performance and Cultural Industries last year, where she was awarded an Excellence scholarship and graduated with a Distinction.

She was selected for the BBC Writersroom Writers Access Group 2021, a new initiative to give talented disabled writers the chance to expand their writing skills and to be offered opportunities in TV and Radio at the BBC. Lizzie is also developing a number of projects for television and is part of the editorial team at ITV’s CORONATION STREET.

Filming will commence later this year. ‘Ralph and Katie’ will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
