Postponed: Where is the Wild? Castle Howard creative art workshops

Join visual artists Melanie Rose and Judith Tucker for a day of creative responses to the landscape of Castle Howard.

Melanie Rose and Judith Tucker are both artists whose work considers landscape, social history, and personal memory. Both have exhibited extensively: Judith Tucker has been twice shortlisted for the Jackson’s Painting prize and for the inaugural Westmorland Landscape Prize in 2019. Melanie Rose was a finalist in the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition in 2019.

The day will start with a short walk through the grounds, after which you will be able to experiment with a wide variety of media and approaches, from observational drawing to working with objects and maps. You will have privileged access to material from archives, including historical maps. Through noticing, listening, and paying close attention to the “landscape” that you will walk through, the workshop will explore ideas of the rural, the wild, the natural, the unnatural, domestic, farming-related and designed landscapes, past, present and even future.
