Roundtable on the Media Image of Africa

This roundtable discussion brings together contemporary expertise on Africa’s media image from a variety of perspectives.

To what extent does misrepresentation of Africa persist, and how can it be addressed?

The panel provisionally includes:

  • Dr. Omega Douglas, author: The Racial Dynamics of Reporting Africa: Colonial and Decolonial Practices in Mainstream Western News Media (2025, Routledge)
  • Dr. Muganzi Isharaza, World Vision, and Univ. of Leeds PhD.
  • Kennedy Osuri, VOA correspondent and officer of the Foreign Press Association, Africa.

The roundtable will be chaired by Professor Chris Paterson, co-editor of Africa’s Media Image in the 21st Century (2017, Routledge).

This event will take place at the start of the Race and Media conference in the School of Media and Communication, and is co-organised by LUCAS and the Global Communication Research Group of the School of Media and Communication.
