stage@leeds is a modern theatre complex located at the heart of the University of Leeds campus. A 180 seat main auditorium is complimented by a 52 seat studio space, dance studio and a welcoming foyer area. All our venues are well equipped with PA, lighting and AV support and are fully accessible for people with mobility difficulties.

Stage One is our main auditorium with180 raked seats in traditional end on format and a flat floor stage space of 10m x 12m. The main seating rake of 120 seats is fully retractable making Stage One the perfect flexible space for Conferences and events.

The Alec Clegg studio

Our black box studio has a capacity of 52 seats in traditional end on format. The seating block is fully retractable. The Alec Clegg Studio has a built in projector and motorised screen making this an excellent space for conferences, lectures and lectures demos as well as a versatile break out space for larger events.

Our light and airy dance studio has a full mirrored wall, P.A and Electric Piano. Floor mats are also available on request. This versatile space can also be used as a break out space for conferences or as additional space for catered events.

Working with stage@leeds

stage@leeds programmes two seasons of contemporary performance work each year, Sept – Dec and Jan – June. We work in partnership with the companies and individuals we programme and selection can be up to six months in advance. The stage@leeds programme is curated by the Artistic Director, Steve Ansell (s.ansell@leeds.ac.uk) and the theatre’s creative team.

We do not hire out stage@leeds for public performances, however, we are always looking for exciting, dynamic, contemporary performance that might fit in well with our programming so please let us know via email about your work and what you are up to. Please include links to any reviews, images, videos of your work for evaluation.

Hiring our spaces

stage@leeds can be hired for conferences, research events and community performances*. Availability is limited and will usually be during the Summer or Easter breaks.
