Join us for this joint PRiA – LITE workshop

Where? Baines Wing SR (1.06)

You can register for this event via this link

The session will be led by Professor Bee Bond, LITE Strategic Lead for Educational Gain and Student Futures, and Agne Kocnevaite, LITE Higher Education Research and Support Officer.

Why bother?

We will explore and discuss together why demonstrating the value of an education from our Faculty is important and consider how we can do this though scholarship/pedagogic research.

Questions we might explore include (but are not limited to):

For students:

  • Why choose Leeds and AHC and what is the broader value of university beyond a qualification?
  • What is the value of that specific qualification - what does it mean to think and communicate like a historian in comparison to a lawyer or a philosopher that means each student will bring something special to whatever they do in their future? (How) can they articulate and evidence this?

For our scholarship and practice:

  • When we change our curriculum, assessments or feedback approach, how can we ensure that these changes matter - providing genuine benefit rather than novelty - and can we demonstrate that students gain something better?
  • How do we ensure that benefit is accessible for all?

For staff:

  • We are increasingly required to demonstrate the value of a university education and students’ gain.
  • If the intrinsic value of education is no longer assumed, how can we demonstrate its value ethically and systematically before external pressures dictate the terms?

Finally, how can we collaboratively evaluate and build a picture of ‘educational gain’ across the Faculty that also remains loyal to and highlights disciplinary differences?
