From September 2025, the University of Leeds made it mandatory for staff and students to complete the Using GenAI at Leeds online course. This, along with a newly formed AI Hub and a suite of resources aimed at researchers and educators, contributes to a rapidly expanding culture and community in which AI is firmly embedded.
Beyond the broad issues covered in Using GenAI at Leeds, disciplinary specific questions about the use of AI in pedagogy and pedagogic research linger. This workshop is designed, first, to foreground short discussion points and provocations from invited speakers, and, second, for staff to air particular questions, training needs and/or concerns relating to the potential uses and abuses of AI in education in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. There will be time for questions and answers at the end of the session.
Speakees will include
- Katie Gardner, AHC Digital Innovation Fellow
- Rachel Hartshorne, Senior Learning Technologist, Digital Education Enhancement
- Simon Popple, Professor of Digital Media Cultures, Academic Lead Digital Creativity and Cultures Hub
The session will be led by Dr Richard de Blacquière-Clarkson, AI Hub lead and Academic Development Consultant, Organisational Development & Professional Learning (OD&PL). Contributions to the session from attendees will be used to inform future training for AHC staff.
The workshop is aimed at all staff (academic, professional services) in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures who are considering, or may need to consider, issues around AI in their educational and PedR/SoTL activities. By the end of the session, you will have a clearer idea of ways in which AI might be used in these activities, and have the chance to input into future training for Faculty staff.
