The Future of Practical Ethics Conference - Call For Papers

IDEA The Ethics Centre at the University of Leeds, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025-26. As part of our celebrations we will be holding a large conference on the future of practical ethics.

Simon Kirchin, Centre Director of IDEA The Ethics Centre, has recently issued a second call for papers for the Future of Practical Ethics conference to be hosted by IDEA on 8th -10th September 2025. Papers/talks can be on any topic within practical and applied ethics, but we are particularly interested in papers that relate to the following themes:

•    AI, data and technology ethics
•    ethical issues concerning the arts and heritage
•    biomedical ethics
•    environmental ethics
•    leadership and organisational ethics
•    ethical issues concerning love, sex and relationships
•    war and peace
and
•    the future style and mode of practical ethics teaching and research itself - e.g. how ethics is taught to non-philosophy students and professionals

Submission details.  Please send:
•    a 1,000 word summary
•    to: s.kirchin@leeds.ac.uk
•    by: Thursday 1st May 2025, 12 noon BST
•    please title your email: 'IDEA CONFERENCE submission'
•    [Note: it is intended that talks will be 20 mins long with 10 mins Q&A]

Invited speakers are Prof. Clare Chambers (Cambridge), Prof. Helen Frowe (Stockholm) and Prof. Elselijn Kingma (KCL) and the conference is sponsored by The Society for Applied Philosophy and the University of Leeds.
