The Cottingley Fairies: Photography Challenge

This exhibition will explore the story of the photographs and what happened after their publication.

Just over one hundred years ago Sir Arthur Conan Doyle published the Cottingley fairies photographs in The Strand Magazine. But how did the literary genius behind the detective mastermind Sherlock Holmes get fooled by fake fairies?

The exhibition ‘The Cottingley Fairies: A Study in Deception’ will be taking place at the Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery in Leeds as part of Being Human Festival. It explores the story of the photographs and what happened after their publication.

You can take part in this challenge and share your own pictures inspired by the exhibition. To find out more about the themes and how to share, follow @LULGalleries on Instagram during the festival.
