Selina Bashir

Profile

I completed by BA in History and MA in Modern History at the University of Leeds, before starting my PhD which is funded by the AHRC through WRoCAH. My research centres around Pakistan’s socio-political trajectory since its inception in 1947, and the global connections between South Asia and the modern world.

My PhD analyses the development of the Mangla Dam in Pakistan administered Kashmir through the global histories of development, twentieth century dam-building and the Cold War. With specific emphasis on curating a social history of the Mangla Dam and Mirpur District, I will conduct a series of oral-history interviews with dam-affected peoples and those who have migrated as a result of the dam’s construction.
