Profile

My research focuses on minimalist and postminimalist music in the United States, with particular attention to the work of West Coast composer Paul Dresher and librettist Rinde Eckert. I am interested, among other things, in their use of the operatic medium to critique key socio-political issues in 1980s American culture and to interrogate constructions of American identity.

I read Music at the University of Manchester, where I was awarded the Peter J. Leonard Prize for composition. I subsequently undertook private study in algorithmic composition and Lisp programming with Professor David Cope at the University of California, Santa Cruz. My acousmatic compositions have been performed in both the United Kingdom and Canada.

In addition to my musical research, I hold degrees in law and am qualified to practise as a solicitor in England and Wales.
