Sarah Hambly

Profile

I am a postgraduate researcher, supervised by Professor Alinka Greasley and Professor Karen Burland. My PhD, which I began in 2022, focuses on the lived experiences of physically disabled musicians, primarily in Western music cultures. Utilising a Critical Disability Studies approach, it explores the barriers disabled musicians face and considers how their experiences contribute to their musical identities. Part of my thesis involved devising and implementing a narrative interview and analysis approach which foregrounds musicians' stories and focuses on the value of lived experience.
