Voices of the North: University of Leeds Unveils Summer Festival Celebrating Northern Talent & Vocal Music

Introducing our Summer Festival 2025: Voices of the North. From Friday 27th June to Friday 4th July, we'll be welcoming singers from the North of the UK across a variety of vocal music genres...
… including opera, art song, folk, jazz, soul, and musical theatre.
Our Concert Hall will be transformed into an intimate performance space for a new concert experience. Seating will be on round, cabaret style tables, with ambient lighting, candlelight, nibbles, and a place to hold your drinks while you enjoy the musical offerings on stage. When you book your ticket, you'll be able to choose where to sit to ensure you have the experience that you want. Our festival is the perfect blend of tradition and innovation, with concerts in a variety of genres and formats to cater to all audiences.
“We are proud to be part of the cultural fabric of Leeds, and West Yorkshire as a whole. By featuring northern voices, we're strengthening our connection to local audiences while celebrating the broader impact of northern musicians on the international stage. Whether through folk traditions, art song, or music for the stage, these artists show the impact of northern singers through original compositions and interpretations of existing music. Our Summer Festival artists add to the Concert Series' vibrant and authentic representation of the UK’s musical landscape.”
Vocal music holds a special place in human culture, communication, and emotional expression. Singing has been central to storytelling, spiritual traditions, and artistic innovation across centuries and cultures. It showcases the versatility of the voice, from operatic grandeur to intimate folk songs, ensuring that audiences experience the full spectrum of musical expression.
