In conversation with Kojey Radical

Kojey Radical is a multi-talented British-Ghanaian musician, poet, and creative director. His music spans a multitude of genres - from hip-hop, rap, jazz and funk, as well as spoken word and poetry.

Whilst studying Fashion Illustration at the London College of Fashion, Kojey released his debut EP, Dear Daisy in 2014. Kojey’s distinctive style of storytelling paired with unique, rhythmic melodies have spawned multiple critically acclaimed EPs over the following years. Kojey’s 2019 release of his fourth EP, Cashmere Tears, was rated five stars by the British music publication NME, who described the work as “an extraordinary tale of turmoil, love – and funk.” The subject matter of Kojey’s songs ranges from relationships with religion, love, and politics, to the stigma of mental health within Black communities, as well as growing up in East London with Ghanaian immigrant parents.

Ahead of the release of Kojey’s highly anticipated debut album, Reasons To Smile, Kojey will be coming to the University of Leeds to have a conversation about art and mental health, pitfalls of the music industry, as well as issues around racial and social injustice.

Although the event is free, due to the limited capacity and huge demand, booking tickets is absolutely essential.

Following this event, Kojey will host a special launch show for Reasons to Smile at Headrow House on Wednesday 9th March 2022 at 19:00. Book tickets for the launch show.
